Latest Mobile Phones

The current cellular phone market gives users more choices than ever before. Check out these latest mobile phones to hit the market.

Of course, one of the most popular, cool cell phones available now is Apple’s iPhone. The iPhone has gone through several generations, and the most recent version is the iPhone 3G. The iPhone’s unprecedented success is largely attributed to the iPhone’s App Store, which allows programmers and developers to release their “apps” directly to end users. The iPhone, like many smart phones, boasts a color touch screen and can connect to the internet via WiFi, the EDGE network (aka “2G”) and 3G wireless, when available. Although there has been much speculation as to the iPhone being available on other networks, for now the only carrier choice for iPhone users is AT&T. In some metropolitan areas, such as New York City, the AT&T network has gotten a bad reputation. The iPhone’s on screen keyboard is far and away the best touch screen typing experience available on any phone.

Another newer entry in the smart phone segment of the cellular phone market is the Palm Pre. This phone boasts Palm’s own operating system, known as WebOS. Its unique selling point, is its ability to simultaneously run multiple applications. In addition, the Palm Pre features a slide out physical keyboard, making it an excellent choice for those who don’t want to deal with the iPhone’s on-screen keyboard. Of course, the Palm Pre can function with just the on screen keyboard as well. In addition, Palm has recently released a smaller and less expensive version of the Pre known as the Palm Pixi. Both phones are available on the Sprint network, although the Palm Pre will soon be available on other cellular phone networks as well.

Google’s Android for mobile phones is another choice of cellular phones. When the T-Mobile G1 launched in late 2008 it launched a wave of Android devices. At the time, speculation was that Google would not sell phones themselves, but rather would simply provide the operating system for manufacturers. However, in early 2010 Google surprised the industry by announcing the sale of the Nexus One, a phone sold directly by Google that runs the Android operating system. This phone features a blazingly fast 1 gigahertz Snapdragon processor, making it the fastest Android phone on the market. Unlike the T-Mobile G1 or the Motorola Droid, it does not feature a physical keyboard at all. Although it does not feature nearly the number of applications or end users the iPhone enjoys, the Google Nexus One presently remains the fastest Android cellular phone on the market.
